Demand planning and forecasting

The driving force of logistics networks and processes is the demand of the customer. We can always hear, „We would have so much simpler work to do if we knew more precisely the customers’ needs”. So, precision is equally important, but on the different levels of the network, for different companies, for different situations it is to be considered and handled differently. Still, we can all agree on that for reaching a certain precision, we need to know the various factors, e.g. the behavior of the market, customers, competitors etc. without which we cannot succeed.

Those methods we can use to analyse, and to plan for the future are without question imperative. The methods used need to – according to recent studies – integrate into a complex cross-section planning process called S&OP, thus constantly servicing the needs of the company, or rather companies of the value chain.
