It is common knowledge that creating value for the customer is no small feat. A product is value itself, phisically manifested. So that it can become one, a synchronized operation of the processes of a complex system, a production system is needed. But it is more than production technology.
The material, information and value flows are integral parts of the technological processes, and these are the logistics of the production, without which no plant can be operated. All these work well if they remain unseen. This can be achieved only if logistics issues are addressed during the design of the production system. Have you thought about the importance of the topology of the manufacturing area, the lay-out of the plant, the location and scaling of the logistically relevant areas, the algorithm behind component supply, the reverse logistics, the connection between warehouse and production?
Aside from these remain plenty of other issues to sort out, which are at least as important in the case of new plants as with already producing units. Not to mention that production logistics is still a rapidly developing area with a great role for automation. The optimal cooperation between man and machine, Industry 4.0 and in parallel Logistics 4.0 raises a sizeable challenge in front of producing companies. We can help navigate among these new trends and opportunities, find the right paths, be it a new or an existing production system that needs directions.
